Overview
The Southeast Asia Farm Animal Welfare Fellowship (SEAFAWF) is a project under Welfare Matters. The project’s aim is to build up a community and network of farmed animal advocates in the region. Through our programmes, we seek to find and empower motivated individuals to engage in a career that can create a more sustainable and humane food system in Southeast Asia, particularly in Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore.

The Role
As the Programme Associate (Indonesia), your role is to help build and connect a network of farmed animal advocates in Indonesia through the Southeast Asia Farm Animal Welfare Fellowship (SEAFAWF) programme. You will be responsible for implementing the next fellowship that is focused on Indonesia in collaboration with the programme directors, contributing to the growth of a passionate community of advocates dedicated to addressing issues in industrial animal agriculture. This role includes supporting individuals aspiring to careers that contribute to creating a more sustainable and humane food system in Southeast Asia.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for successfully implementing the upcoming round of the Southeast Asia Farm Animal Fellowship (SEAFAWF) in Indonesia. The target audience are interested individuals in Indonesia.
This will include developing and adapting the fellowship to be more locally relevant, and working with experienced advocates in building partnerships and identifying opportunities. The Programme Coordinator (Indonesia) is a holistic role and you will be involved from the start to the end of the fellowship programme.
Develop the promotion plans and marketing collateral for fellowship applicant recruitment, targeting individuals in Indonesia.
Work closely with the executive team in updating the next round of fellowship curriculum, based on previous feedback.
Translate fellowship materials and communication information between English and Bahasa Indonesia (both verbal and written).
Help to interview and evaluate fellowship applicants.
Maintain regular communication with the fellows to support their learning and to provide updates and announcements.
Manage speaker coordination for fellowship sessions.
Prepare curriculum materials for fellows before and after each session.
Process and upload recordings of fellowship sessions weekly.
Provide 1-on-1 support to some fellows in their career goals during and after the fellowship.
Create career roadmaps for various pathways in Indonesia to guide those considering careers in this field.
Coordinate the task for fellows to develop project proposals towards the end of the fellowship.
Work on tasks related to post-fellowship engagement.
The stakeholders that you would be interacting and coordinating with in this role includes:
Fellows - engage extensively with the fellows who are a part of the fellowship.
Organisations (local/international) - connect with animal advocacy groups working in Indonesia.
Universities - explore ways to engage with educational institutions for potential recruitment of fellows.
Translators - work with professional translators for the translation and interpretation of the fellowship content from English to Bahasa Indonesia.
Speakers - liaise and communicate with speakers for the programme, where needed.
Required skills & experience
The qualifications that we are seeking in our team member:
Cares deeply about reducing farmed animal suffering, is familiar with the issues and has an open mind in doing what it takes to have a great impact.
Excellent in written and verbal communication skills in English.
Proficient in Bahasa Indonesia and has a deep understanding of the local culture.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications.
At least 3-5 years experience in the planning and execution of programmes/projects (e.g. community building, training).
Able to organise both online and in-person events.
Be experienced (or become proficient) in Google Drive and related applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc), Zoom, Asana, Slack and Canva.
Proactive and action-oriented; able to work independently.
Detail-oriented with excellent organisation and planning skills.
A team player who enjoys coordinating and working with others.
Have strong interpersonal skills and can build new relationships with fellows and collaborators to grow the network and connections in the region.
Is culturally sensitive and takes a humble and respectful attitude in being more aware of the differences between countries and the implications on communicating and engaging in animal advocacy in this region.
Already based in Indonesia.
